July has also seen a number of scurges with the bureaucratic sphere of this country. On the whole, these experiences have turned out to be much better than we had expected, but the Israeli bureaucratic system is notoriously bad and we were understandably anxious.
As you already know, we received out Israeli citizenship at the beginning of the month and were handed our new tudot zehut (ID cards), which was terribly exciting, from the Ministry of the Interior.
The next stage in the bureaucratic process required us to work with the Ministry of Absorption (as scary as it sounds) and things have not been quite so rosy. The whole thing took much longer than we expected, and we waited and waited for an appointment and then for them to issue our first aliyah payment...they stretched it out for as long as we could possibly manage...and then some more. Plus, our absorption councillor was unhelpful, unintelligent and not interested...always a good sign. So, our aim is to minimise our interaction with Moscow...oops, sorry, with the Ministry of Absorption as much as possible in order to be able to continue to believe the Aliyah dream.
