THE NEW YERUSHALMI

Last Wednesday we went to Jerusalem. We each had our own reason for being there - David had a meeting with someone and then needed to go Meah Shaarim, of course - and I went after ulpan in search of something to wear to the Posner-Davidowitz wedding, which is tomorrow on Tu B'Av in Jerusalem. It was an extraordinarily hot day - we have had a couple of weeks of blasting heat - which made the day a bit of a challenge.

I met David at the Samet's house in Meah Shaarim. Arieh Samet is one of David's buddies and with whom he is working on a number of book projects at the moment. I popped in to say hi to Arieh and his wife Tamar and their two adorable children, Mordechai and Eliyahu.

While we were there, Arieh convinced David that he wanted to try on the full Yerushalmi (Jerusalemite) garb. This is the outfit that men who can claim to be tenth generation Yerushalmis wear on Shabbat. Given the heat, it was perhaps not the best day for David to try on the outfit, but at least we have a record of it for posterity...Doesn't he look lovely? Fortunately, he changed his clothes before he returned to Tel Aviv!
