We arrived in New York on Monday morning, after the flight from hell and a week of stress leading up to it. Not only was it a packed flight on El Al from Tel Aviv to New York, but we didn't manage to get an aisle seat, then David was squashed in next to a big fat, snoring man, we were hemmed in by children all around and the whole experience sent David to a point of extreme emotion. (As I told him later, I had started making contingency plans for what to do when he flipped out so much that the flight attendants had to restrain him! Obviously, my imagination ran away with itself...)
Anyway, despite our best efforts to be disorganised, our fabulous friend Mark arranged a studio sublet in the Upper West Side (near the corner of Amsterdam and 79th) in which we will be staying for the rest of our time here.
David's schedule is packed, so he will be working hard. On Monday night (October 8th), he gave his first talk for a combined Long Island communities event: “And raise up many students”: The Life, Times and Influence of Rabbi Akiva. It was a great talk, with around 200 people in the audience. Despite his jet lag, David gave a wonderful talk, with the life and teachings of idea embedded in his historical background. Great talk and interest journey out to Long Island on the train.
